For the fourth time in his career last night Brad Lidge earned at least 30 saves in a season. Lidge appears to be a fraction of his former self and everyone in Philadelphia has seem to let him know that.  Now don’t me get wrong I don’t think a save should ever be blown, a professional baseball team especially one of the Phillies caliber is expected to get three outs in order to get the win. Despite Lidge blowing 10 saves this year I’m not ready to throw him under the bus not yet, not to mention we owe him 35.5 million dollars, so he probably should stick around for a while. For a city who was so championship deprived a year ago Lidge was a big part of that team, and we owe it to him to show a little backbone. Has the perfect season he tossed last year mean nothing to us? Is the reputation as some of the worst fans in sports going to plague us again? I’m here to stop that out pour of Lidge haters. The guy is having an off year now there is no doubt he needs to take the rest of the regular season off and work out some of the problems he’s been having. Though our starting pitching has improved a great deal but our bullpen is not the same as last year. Shaken up by injuries, with Drubin, Romero and most recently Park going on the DL, the pen is not as strong as they use to be, so we can’t put all the blame on Lidge. Madson has 6 blown saves him self and only 8 saves, he just isn’t a closer. Unlike the rest of the Philly phaithful I’m not ready to let Lidge go, not yet. He should with out a doubt be our started next season, not that I’m focusing on that quite yet. Lidge’s woes haven’t cost us anything major yet we still have a commanding lead in the NL East and are a solid pick to get back to the World Series. Now that the facts are measured up and we’re reminded of what Brad Lidge is capable of not to mention he is a veteran closer compared to the rest of our pen, suppose its game 7 of the NLCS and we have a 1 run lead over the Dodgers who’s your closer?
